Several years ago my friend and talented photographer, Tina,<\/p>\n

encouraged a group of colleagues to use our talents to<\/p>\n

bring more awareness to families living with Down Syndrome.<\/p>\n

From the day I saw Tina’s session, I’ve wanted to do just that.<\/p>\n

October is Down Syndrome awareness month.<\/p>\n

It’s also my busiest month of the year.<\/p>\n

So, every year, it sneaks up on me and passes me by.<\/p>\n

This year I vowed to do it, and I did…<\/p>\n

though it’s almost the end of the month and I almost let it sneak by.<\/p>\n

Almost. \u00a0But not quite.<\/p>\n

Aiden’s mom, Jennifer, and I went to middle school and high school together way back when.<\/p>\n

I won’t tell you exactly how long ago – but it was a long time ago:)<\/p>\n

We went to a small high school where everyone felt like family.<\/p>\n

That’s the bad thing about growing up and moving away<\/p>\n

you lose a bit of your family.<\/p>\n

I was honored to invade Jennifer’s life for a few hours,<\/p>\n

to catch up, meet her boys and just see her beautiful smile<\/p>\n

(she always had the best smile – even in high school)<\/p>\n

So, anyway, Aiden. \u00a0I loved meeting Aiden and his big brother Gavin.<\/p>\n

Jennifer and Lee have some awesome boys.<\/p>\n

Aiden goes to a public school and is in Kindergarten.<\/p>\n

Gavin told me that when they pick up Aiden from school<\/p>\n

he and mom get the best hugs, that Aiden acts as if he hasn’t<\/p>\n

seen them in year.<\/p>\n

He was right. \u00a0Big hugs and huge smiles.<\/p>\n

I thought Aiden would be ready to leave right \u00a0away – but nope,<\/p>\n

he had no problem showing us his work.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After school, we went to one of Aiden’s favorite places.<\/p>\n

The family hardware store<\/p>\n

where Jennifer said he gets 1 scoop of ice cream<\/p>\n

but he gets a bunch of scoops of LOVE.<\/p>\n

I love Aiden’s routines in the store. \u00a0First he has to run through the storage room<\/p>\n

and hit the attic string.<\/p>\n

Then he gets ice cream<\/p>\n

and then he hangs out in the office.<\/p>\n

Turning the light on and off and on and off again:)<\/p>\n

After another attic string attack – he’s ready to go!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

At this point, Aiden was ready for me to leave.<\/p>\n

He didn’t quite understand why I was following him around.<\/p>\n

But I followed him home anyway.<\/p>\n

Then it was time to play outside.<\/p>\n

Jeeps, trampolines, forts, slides. \u00a0Fun, fun, fun.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0After playing, Aiden was ready to go in<\/p>\n

and took me in his room to show me his favorite things.<\/p>\n

I love his room. \u00a0I want Jennifer to come decorate my house.<\/p>\n

I’m glad Silas didn’t see Gavin’s room – he would have been jealous.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then finally, Aiden was ready for some down time.<\/p>\n

After wrestling with Gavin.<\/p>\n

If you know Aiden, you know he LOVES the Wiggles.<\/p>\n

I mean, LOVES them.<\/p>\n

What a treat that 2 new movies arrived in the mail that day.<\/p>\n

I was impressed with how quickly Aiden picked up their dance moves<\/p>\n

and loved that Jennifer and Gavin hung right with Aiden as he enjoyed his show.<\/p>\n
